Visualization is life changing for self development junkies. I hope you are one because if you are not utilizing it then you have a lot to gain from it. By properly utilizing visualization techniques we can change our subconscious minds' beliefs and our self images. It's a technique that directly propels us to complete our goals. What you must have in mind is that this tool is incredibly powerful and crucial if you want to create long lasting changes and achieve goals in your life.

What is it?

Visualization is a simple technique in which you use mental imagery(your imagination) to change your subconscious mind and to prime it with images of the goals you want to achieve.

By using visualization we can truly make ourselves fulfill ambitions and goals. It is the single best technique to make you achieve your goals. This tool is so powerful it can change your life around in every single area if you use it properly.

There are many best-seller books and popular movies on this concept, so I'm not telling you any new secret humanity didn't know about before.

To do visualization, you just have to sit down and imagine yourself accomplishing a goal and living the results of your achievement. So if your goal is to learn french,a good thing to imagine would be yourself speaking french and eating a croissant with your new french girlfriend. You would imagine this along with other scenes that would result from you learning french and eventually you would learn french. I will go into the details of the process later.

It's common for people to disregard the visualization technique after they listen to it because it seems like a scam. I honestly can't blame them because I thought the same when i first heard about it. But well, the reason why I'm here writing this instead of watching cat videos is because these techniques really do work.

anyways...

Why do it?

I guess it's kind of obvious by now. We want to achieve goals and this helps us do that.

Visualization allows us to be inspired by our goals. Instead of wanting to achieve goals, we now need to achieve them and there is no alternative. The motivation and momentum that visualization gives you is just too good to miss.

Visualization allows you to change your subconscious mind's beliefs. Including the beliefs you have about yourself, your self image. This is incredibly powerful to break limits your subconscious mind has like: lack of confidence, lack of self-esteem, excessive laziness, inability to do something.

Most importantly, visualization can be used as a way to create a strong vision. This means it can be used to help us achieve our goals.

Having a strong vision is important, it determines whether you grind through the work or whether you flow through it. The stronger your vision is, the easier obstacles will be. If you don't have a powerful vision, you will grind and suffer to achieve your goal. This is not only stressful, but it doesn't let us give everything we have, the quality of our actions diminish and the time we put in takes a hit. We want to be inspired and pumped, not dreadful.

By visualizing, the current of our motivation widens and breaks through anything. This is how you want to live your life.

How visualization works on your subconscious mind

As you can see in this image, you conscious mind is only the tip of the iceberg. Your conscious mind has the ability to do logical and critical thinking and is also responsible for willpower. The voice in your head is part of the conscious mind.

Your subconscious mind consists of beliefs, emotions, habits, values, imagination, intuition, and long term memory. It is responsible for most of what we do. It is also responsible for our sense of motivation.

The only problem is that we have no direct control over our subconscious mind. We cannot give it orders and expect it to do what we want. It's like an automatic computer and it doesn't follow orders. If we could control it, we would make ourselves happy and motivated all day long.

But there's a way to manipulate this computer. Good guess, it's visualization.

Since our subconscious mind is always in action whenever we give it data, it's processes are understandable and we can manipulate them indirectly.

Whenever you visualize a goal that you want to accomplish, you keep sending this images to your subconscious mind again and again. If you do it consistently enough, the subconscious mind will sense the importance that this images and goals have and we will be motivated towards their completion.

Sometimes we consciously know that a goal is important for us to accomplish, but when we repeatedly visualize it, our subconscious starts understanding as well. When our subconscious understands our goals, that's when we get them done.

Doing visualization without knowing it.

By this point you might have already noticed that you have used visualization in your life before. Think about the goals you have successfully achieved in the past and you will realize that you have unconsciously done visualization with those goals. The difference is that you used visualization in an uncontrolled and sporadic manner. This is great, but what we want is to do visualization in a controlled and consistent manner, this way we can make sure that our subconscious mind gets the message.

Think about the goals you failed to achieve, try remembering if you did some form of visualization towards that goal. Chances are you probably didn't do any visualization at all or too little, had you done more, you might have succeeded.

So our mission now is to take control of this visualization process in order to create the results we want to get out of life and create productivity and inspiration.

Practicing visualization

Practicing visualization is easy. I'm gonna list you the process in a few simple steps.

Step 1: Sit down and relax. Our minds are always spinning throughout the day, specially if you live a western life. We don't want this to be happening when we are visualizing, you have to be fully focused. Forget about your problems and all the other stuff you have to do and relax during this exercise. A few deep, slow breaths are very useful in slowing down your mind.

Step 2: Set a timer for 5 to 10 minutes. This step is pretty optional, but having a timer prevents you from thinking about when to stop visualizing. That way you don't get distracted.

Step 3: Set a target for the visualization. Just choose a goal you have for yourself like creating a business, losing weight, learning piano, or any other personal goal.

Step 4: Now close your eyes and start creating images of how your life would be if you had accomplished that goal. If you for example wanted to be self-employed, imagine yourself on a Monday morning having the day free for yourself. Make the images as detailed as possible. Imagine yourself looking at your bank account and seeing a lot of money. What emotions would you feel? Imagine getting out of your new expensive apartment into your new shiny car. See yourself enjoying the results of a free, self employed life.

Imagine stuff like that until the timer runs out.

Every time you create a scene in your mind, you give a little hint to your subconscious mind. Do it enough and consistently and you will have filled your subconscious with this messages. Your motivation will increase and almost like magic your goals will give you the drive you need.

Final Tips

That's how an ideal visualization session would look like. It's not necessary for you to sit down, relax, and get a timer. You can just visualize a random scene at any time during the day. But ideally you'll do it while relaxed because that's when it's easier to create the most vivid imagery.

It is super-critical that you do visualization consistently. If you do it on Monday and then miss the rest of the week then don't even do it in the first place. Your subconscious mind is like a dog and it works through repetition. You must keep giving it imagery consistently or you won't get the results you want.

Another thing you can do while visualizing is listening to music. Put on some epic, instrumental music that inspires you and gets you emotional. Then close your eyes and visualize as you listen.

Do extra research on the topic. The information here should be enough for you to get the habit in place and reap some results, but by doing extra research you can get a better big picture idea of this concept.

I know I already said this, but be consistent. You don't want to get lazy on this. It takes 5 minutes.

Enjoy
